Pakistani Ghulam Sughra receives 2011 International Women of Courage Awards

This morning at the State Department, hosted  ceremony on the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and First Lady Michelle Obama presented the annual International Women of Courage awards to 10 women from around the world. One of these 10 women is Pakistani Ghulam Sughran. She is Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Marvi Rural Development Organization is one of the luckiest Pakistani women who received 2011 International Women of Courage Awards by the Secretary of State.

Ghulam Sughra created the Marvi Rural Development Organization (MRDO), an NGO focused on   creating community savings funds and raising awareness of education, health, human rights, and social development issues.

While originally focused in her home village, Ms. Sughra has expanded to the rural areas of Sindh, Punjab, and Baluchistan provinces. Born in rural Sindh Province, Ms. Sughra was forced to marry at the age of 12. Six years later, Ms. Sughra became the first woman in her village to divorce, and consequently, became a social outcast. Severely beaten by her brothers when she tried to attend school, she pursued her studies at home. She later succeeded in becoming her village’s first female high school graduate and the first teacher at the first school for girls. She is 40 and can speak english, Urdu and Sindhi languages.

        Wel done..Our Sindh is full of the great women..We only need to support and courage them..Sindhi women is really symbol of hard working, courage, dedication and sympathy..That’s why we have the greatest lady Banazir Bhutto, Shamshad Akhter, former state bank governor, Mrs. Sughran and many more..Its a moment of pride that since the inception of Pakistan, all the greatest works have been done by Sindhi male or female even he is Sindhi speaking or Urdu..Check..Benazir Bhutto as one the greatest lady of history and first ever Pakistani and only Sindhi president of Oxford University..Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as foreign minister..Ramesh Kumar of Umer Kot securing first position at Oxford university in the world..Dr Shabnam of Tando Adam whose researched paper regarding the Water resources is recognized internationally the best resech..Check more Ur self..Heros are yet in the line..Salam Sindh and Allah the almighty keep u intact up to the doom’s day..
