Condemn the Kidnapping of Jamil, a human rights defender from Qambar, Larkana

RightsNow Pakistan condemn the kidnapping of human rights defender Jamil Hussain Jonejo, staff of Pakistan Fisher Folk, an organization works for promotion and protection of rights of fishermen.

This is not the first time, human rights defenders face threats or harmed. Northern areas of Sindh, where Government’s writ seems does not exist. Every day people are kidnapped and then returned after paying ransom. Reason of Jamil’s kidnapping are not known yet. However, civil society feel very much concerned about his security. RigthsNow Pakistan try to reach DIG Larkana, Khadim Rind for getting updates on Jamil’s situation but line with the DIG is not being established yet. As soon as we will receive more information, we will post and share with the stake holders.

Security situation for human rights defenders is in Pakistan is worse. Recently, more than 27 writers, journalists, poets, NGOists who protested against a group of land mafia at Umer Kot are being harrased by the mafia. RightsNow Pakistan’s legal team has responded their security needs and taken responsibility of legal support to them.

RightsNow Pakistan call for swift action by the government of Sindh, law enforcement agencies to find out the where-about of Jamil and made his safe return possible.
