Statement: Immediate and Rapid Response is needed to Rain Affected People-

Again this year, heavy rains have started displacing people who were not even settled yet in Sindh. Reports are being received through media, volunteers and reporters that heavy rains have damaged crops, caused displace, Mirpurkhas  districts.

  • So far 18 people have lost their lives reported in media.
  • Javed Malik  25 years old drowned in Mirwah Gorchani
  • Raeesa 50 and 2 years Ahsan killed due to roof collapse
  • M. Mangrahar, Ms. Kheti, Ms. and Ms. were killed in the same kind of incident.
  • 28 people injured in a roof collapse at Digri
  • Two girls were killed at by roof collapse at Odho Village T.M.Khan
  • 6 people have been killed in Tando Mohummad Khan in different incidents due to rain

These are incidents which have been reported by media and other sources but there may be some lives lost which have not been surfaced in media.

In this situation, RightsNow Pakistan call for immediate State and International Community intervention and immediate provision of support to affected people and areas ON EMERGENCY BASIS. However, prime Minister of Pakistan has already directed National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for immediate response, we demand, DCOs in these areas tighten their coordination and set up information sharing and support mechanisms work round the clock. The Government of Pakistan make sure all the necessary staff and resources are available at coordination points to support individuals, families and communities in rain affected areas.

RightsNow Pakistan request media, civil society, youth group, community based organizations and women groups to report human rights violations occur during the rain and report to local authorities and NGOs working on them. We request media for rapid and authentic reporting

We request Government Institutions, Police and other law enforcement authority to keep check on criminal elements who may take advantage of the situation.

Schools should be closed until situation gets normal.

Drainage and Sewarage Department should plug holes and wells in roads and streets.

Electrical and Power Supply Department make sure wires are properly covered.

Doctors stretch their working hours and provide life saving & Psycho social supportto affected people.

Tando Allahyar Specific Recomedations:

We call for immediate intervention and rapid response by Mehran Sugar Mill and other industries in this situation. These institutions should provide rescue support to affected people and help displaced people find shelters.  

We request Gymkhana Tando Allahyar, Chamber & Commerce Tando Allahyar and other support mechanisms to play their role in this situation and help reduce people’s plight and miseries by providing them food, medicines and other support.
