Sarfraz Case: Death Sentence to Shahid who Shot Sarfraz Shah; Life in prison to rest of the accused

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) announced its verdict in the Sarfraz Shah killing case on Thursday, August 11, 2011 and awarded the death sentence to Shahid Zafar, who shot Sarfraz Shah.

Remaining six accused accomplices were given life in prison sentence. Sarfaraz Shah wаѕ kіƖƖеԁ іn сοƖԁ blood bу thе Rangers personnel οn June 8 аftеr hе wаѕ handed over tο thеm bу thе private contractor, Afsar Khan, accusing hіm οf committing theft аnԁ looting. However, TV footage οf thе kіƖƖіnɡ ѕhοwеԁ thаt thе Rangers personnel shot thе unarmed Shah twice аnԁ аftеr injuring hіm seriously thеу watched hіm bleed tο death instead οf taking hіm tο hospital fοr medical treatement.

The family of the victim, Sarfraz Shah is satisfied with the verdict and called it a decision on merit. They have thanked the Chief Justice of Pakistan for taking the notice of the case and hope that superior courts will uphold the decision. According to the mother of victim, she would be satisfied when death sentence would be carried out. Brother of Sarfraz Shah said, he would like to see the killers go to gallows.

In this case, suo moto action was taken by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. For which people say, had Supreme Court not taken the action, Police could have protected the Ranger personals. These seven men have been convicted by the Anti-Terrorism Court and verdict is given by Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso. Accused have seven days to file an appeal in the High Court against the lower court’s decision. This verdicts has restored people’s confidence in the judiciary and rule of law in Pakistan.
