Jashn-e-Faiz: A Citizens’ Event

Please join us in commemorating Faiz Ahmed Faiz, the sub-continent’s renowned progressive poet, a voice for the downtrodden, and the conscience of a nation. A day-long cultural mega family event (11am – midnight), at the CDGK (KMC) Sports Complex, Kashmir Road, Karachi on Sunday April 17, 2011. Organised by Citizens for Democracy (CFD) in collaboration with Faiz Centenary Committee.

The event, pegged on Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s birth centenary year, aims to acknowledge the multiple voices in Pakistani society and commemorate Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s democratic values. It will provide a platform to citizens, poets, visual artists and performing artists. The event also aims to reclaim public space, and assert the stand of Pakistani citizens against extremist forces that are attempting to eradicate our constitutional rights.

There will be a nominal registration fee (Rs 20/- only) per person.
An event full of fun for the entire family – with something for everyone, whether you’re 8 or 80!

    Thanks for sharing. The year 2011 is an important year for lovers of urdu. it is the centennial birth year of Faiza Ahmad Faiz. While Faiz may have been born a Pakistani, his vision, his writings, his thought was global..Not confined to physical boundaries. He became a legend in his lifetime. Faiz was a poet of the masses and intellectuals. He was a journalist, progressive writer, a critic, activist, labor leader, an intellectual and above all, a wonderful human being.
    the more events are organised in hsi memory, the more will we know more about this great man.

    ON januray 20, 2011, The Center for Comparative Study of Indian Languages and Culture at Aligarh Muslim University organized an International Seminar on “Internalizing Faiz in Twenty First Century: Dimensions and Translations” in association with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Languages, New Delhi, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore and Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi on January 20, 2011.

    Prof. A.R. Fatihi, Director, Center for Comparative Study of Indian Languages and Culture (CCSILC) said that Prof. Salima Hashmi, daughter of Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Dean, School of Visual Arts and Design, B.N. University, Pakistan inaugurated the Seminar at the Kennedy Auditorium at Aligarh Muslim University. Gyanpeeth Award winner, Prof. Shaharyar, eminent Urdu Poet from USA, Prof. Munibur Rahman, Prof. M. Ziauddin Shakeb, U.K., Prof. Ali M. Hashmi, Pakistan, Prof. Anisur Rahman, Director, CCCP, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Dr. M. Hamidullah Bhat, Director, NCPUL (National Council for Promotion of Urdu Languages) New Delhi addressed the inaugural ceremony while Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice Chancellor, AMU presided over the function. It was a rare treat to see so much said about Faiz and each presenter took a different approach to Faiz’s writings and vision…
