Attack on Political meetings- Media-men assaulted in Sri Lanka

Our correspondent (butterfly) from Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka reported an attack on media person this afternoon as the President of Sri Lanka and other official are reportedly celebrating  Sri Lanka’s Independence Day in Kataragama, Sri Lanka. Initial report reveals that a group of armed people, equipped with sticks and other objects attacked a on meeting organized by the UNP in Punchi Borella, Colombo 08 where these journalists were present for the coverage. The gathering had intentions to march to the Welikada Prison, where former Army commander General Sarath Fonseka is detained. The purpose of the march was to draw attention to Fonska’ freedom, who is imprisoned by the current regime 30 months ago on February 08, 2009 when Former General Fonseka contested elections against the sitting president Mahinda Rajapakse. The attack was obviously orchestrated and clearly targeted media persons to prevent media coverage of the event. A cameraman of Sirasa TV was assaulted and his camera grabbed to prevent him from reporting.  In addition, one  Journalist of Thinakural, news paper, was also  assaulted by the armed man.  Awaiting further reports.
